About
About the Herald
The Handheld Herald is a weekly digest about mainstream mobile games. One page, published on Mondays, covering a handful of games that a lot of people already have installed.
How it started
It began as a Sunday message to a group chat. Friends kept asking the same question — what should I actually install? — and answering it once a week in public turned out to be less work than answering it five times in private. The first edition went out at the end of June 2026.
What the Herald covers
A small, fixed roster of well-known games, revisited as they change: Clash of Clans, Roblox, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Asphalt Legends Unite, Hill Climb Racing 2 and Temple Run 2.
The roster is deliberately short. There are thousands of mobile games and no honest way for one person to keep up with all of them. Writing about six games properly is more useful than writing about sixty badly.
What you won't find here
- Scores. A number out of ten tells you less than a sentence about how long a game expects you to play it.
- Reviews of games I haven't played. If it's in an edition, it's because I opened it.
- Advertising, affiliate links or sponsored placements. Nothing on this site is paid for by anyone.
- Download links. Get games from your device's own app store, never from a third-party site.
How games get chosen
Each edition groups games by a practical question rather than by genre — how much time a game wants, whether it needs other people, how well it runs on an older phone. That framing is more useful when you are deciding what to install tonight than a genre label is.
Corrections
Mobile games change constantly and some of what is written here will go out of date. If something no longer matches what a game does, please get in touch and it will be corrected.
Independence
The Herald takes no money from studios, publishers or storefronts. It runs no advertising and has no affiliate arrangements. It is written by one person and costs nothing to read.
